We are delighted to announce we won the "Event" category with the Exhibition Pastello Draw Act!
42.500 paper plates were drawn on with crayon cutlery, 90.000 crayon rubbings were made on paper circles and 520 square meters of PLAIN WHITE WALLPAPER was transformed into large-scale CRAYON MURALS through the use of crayon helmets and shoes.
This is a huge Thank You to all the people who supported us, to the NGV and the kids and families who enjoyed our creation!
We are proud to announce that the fruit Wares collection has officially been acquired by the National Gallery of Victoria and it is now part of the permanent design collection.
The HI Hangers are on our PRODUCT DESIGN section today.
Say HI to the H and the I!
"HI" is the informal word for "Hello", is also used to attract attention, it is the abbreviation of the State of Hawaii and of the Hawaiian Island.
Soon "HI" will be used to point out our new collaboration with Dale Hardiman.
As part of the National Gallery of Victoria commitment to design and children’s programming, we have been commissioned to conceptualise and design a new immersive kids space focused on transforming perception surrounding the simple act of drawing.
Draw Act is a dedicated environment based on the re-imagination of traditional drawing tools and processes. Mathery’s concept shifts our perceptions and expectations about traditional materiality, media and the act of drawing itself. It is active, colourful, inspiring and fun.
Mathery’s concept for this NGV design commission includes interior architecture, graphic design, product design, furnishing and film – representing the breath of our creative capability as a multi-disciplinary studio.
The objective of the space is to ask children to break out of their comfort zone and to become active protagonists in the physical act of drawing.
"Space becomes the media, architectural surfaces serve as substrate, traditional drawing tools are transformed in scale and form, and everyday artefacts mutate to form a stunning array of improvised drawing utensils.
Non-tradition, and the reinterpretation of the everyday underpin much of Mathery’s creative output. The studio illustrates a unique functional and aesthetic approach rich with humour, pragmatism and a hint of the absurd."
Pastello: Draw Act is on display in the Children’s Gallery at NGV International from 10 May to 31 August.
Mathery farewells the "Fruit Ninja" name (but not the collection!) to avoid any confusion between our homewares collection and the greatest fruit-slicing video game in the world. We've decided to rebrand, presenting FRUIT WARES. New name, same great taste!
